Before the SugarHouse Casino opened in Philadelphia, casino protesters were afraid of the possibility of crime rising in the area. In line with their claims, a pair of robberies have victimized several people leaving the casino.
The first crime took place over a month ago. A young man who had won over $1,000 in the casino was followed out of the gaming center after he took his earnings. A pair of young males, described as African American of average height, followed the man to his home.
The assailants pistol whipped the young man, who successfully fended off his attacks. He as treated for injuries and police were set on an investigation using video footage from the casino’s security tapes.
On Friday, another robbery had taken place. A 31 year old woman was assaulted and pistol whipped outside of the casino at 1 in the morning. The two men, who are still on the loose, used a stolen 2001 Pontiac Bonneville to flee the scene of the crime.
The 31 year old victim was taken to Temple University Hospital, where she was treated for the injuries sustained in the attack. She was released later on in the morning.
Surveillance videos are being used to identify the suspects. Police have not yet determined whether or not the two crimes are related.
