On Wednesday, Station Casinos gave $13,000 to the Salvation Army in order to make up for the charity cash that was stolen from the Salvation Army’s headquarters over the weekend.
According to reports, the initial $13,400 was stolen out of a back room where volunteers count money from the Salvation Army’s red kettle collections over the holidays. Charles Desiderio, director of development and marketing for the organization, stated that “No locks were broken. That’s kind of scary that it’s somebody that had access to the key or got hold of one. That’s frightening.”
Lori Nelson, spokeswoman for Station Casinos, said that all 18 Station Casino properties are contributing to the fund in order to remove some pressure from the Salvation Army to make up for the crass and disgusting theft that occurred.
“When we read the news and heard it on TV, we thought it was horrible,” began Nelson. “It just wasn’t in the holiday spirit how this happened. They have been longtime friends and we have been longtime supporters. We just thought it was a tragedy and it’s just the lead we can do as members of the community.”
