Though many casinos in the nation have been faltering, Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods have reported to the Connecticut State Division of Special Revenue that slot revenue during December experienced an increase of 1.2 percent in the slot win and a 6.3 percent in total money fed into the machines over the month of December. These results were a comparison of December 2009 to December of 2010.
The casino has also reported that they have given a $12 million payment to the State of Connecticut in December of 2010 alone. With this contribution, the total dollar amount given to the State of Connecticut has reached approximately $3.12 billion dollars since January of 1993, the date when slots were first introduced into Foxwoods.
“We are encouraged by December’s results and particularly the strong pace of business on New Year’s Eve, “stated Mashantucket Pequot Gaming Enterprises President Scott Butera. “We do, however, recognize that it is time for us to evolve as an enterprise and provide even more amenities and enteratinment options that continue to appeal to our customers.”
Though Foxwoods has been experiencing good luck in some aspects of their business, they have not been so lucky in others. Having recently had their right to build a casino in Pennsylvania revoked, Foxwoods will not be able to expand into the booming Philadelphia gambling market.
Their Connecticut based casino has still managed to flourish through the recession, however. Unlike Atlantic City’s casinos, Foxwoods has proven wildly profitable.
