Last month, a thief clad in biker equipment, covered helmet included, entered the Bellagio Hotel and Casino with the intention of robbing the world class gaming establishment. He ended up taking off with $1.5 million in casino chips during the heist, stealing the chips by holding up the criminal at gunpoint.
According to police, the alleged thief returned to the Bellagio multiple times before he was finally captured by authorities. The accused has been named as Anthony M. Carleo.
Carleo, 29, is the son of a judge in Las Vegas. He was captured Wednesday night on the Bellagio’s gaming floor.
Carleo was not armed when he was apprehended, nor did he attempt to resist his lawful captors. It was not stated whether or not he was attempting to sell the chips he is accused of stealing.
The suspect was in possession of $900,000 in chips. Police are still looking for the black Suzuki GSX-R that he used to flee from the scene of the crime.
Las Vegas Municipal Judge George Assad, Carleo’s father, issued a statement saying that he was “heartbroken to see my son arrested under these circumstances.”
Carleo has been charged with felony armed robbery and burglary. His bail has been set at $15,000.
